What are the Different Types of SEO Services Available?

There are many different types of SEO and, though all are targeting different areas, they all share the common aim in that their main goal is to increase web page rankings on search engines through optimisations that please both Google and the user.

Below, we’ve highlighted six main types of SEO. These are by no means the only SEO services available but these are the SEO services that we commonly utilise in our campaigns, and have found to be the most effective in helping websites rank higher.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO is all about your website being easily accessible and optimising the technical aspects of the website to improve your search engine ranking. These ‘technical aspects’ include elements such as making your website easy to crawl and easy to navigate, making a website that loads faster to improve user experience, and signposting Google to important content on your website. One of the first things we do with a new campaign is conduct a number of SEO audits, including a Technical Site Audit

Content SEO/On-Page SEO

Content SEO focuses on creating content for your website that helps your pages to rank higher on search engines. Creating content not only improves  the user experience for your website but you can also utilise it to rank for your chosen keywords and search terms. The content you create has to be well-written, structured correctly, and unique and engaging enough to rank higher than competitors.

But it’s not just rankings we’re looking to improve with content. Content can also help you to gain the featured snippet right at the top of Google search results – above position 1 – helping to improve a brand’s visibility. Learn more about featured snippets in our recent blog.

Off-Site SEO

Off-Site SEO refers to any tasks completed off of your own website to improve your search engine rankings, which is often linked to improving your authority. There is a range of tasks that can be completed outside of your website that Google takes into account when deciding your search engine rating, one of the key ones being your link profile. Industry professionals have revealed that backlinks are one of the best ways to rank highly on search engines, so creating PR campaigns, guest blogging and reaching out to gain potential backlinks is essential for effective off-site SEO.

Local SEO

Local SEO services are an SEO strategy that focuses on businesses that want to rank highly on search engines within a local area, e.g. a business that wants to rank well in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, or even the whole of Yorkshire, as opposed to ranking well nationwide. Local SEO is perfect for businesses that operate out of a specific area, it utilises several SEO tactics but they are tailored to only target local searches.

eCommerce SEO

eCommerce SEO refers to using tactics to optimise websites that have an online store to help improve rankings and also to get your products in front of potential customers to help improve your conversion rates. eCommerce SEO includes a multitude of tactics to help you punch above your weight online and legitimately compete against the big players in your industry.

Mobile SEO

Mobile SEO is all about optimising your site for mobile users, in a world where over 15-16 billion mobile phones are in use around the world, mobile SEO services are becoming essential for all website owners. When optimising a website for mobile you are taking into account the page speed, web design, and overall structure to ensure that the user’s journey is high quality no matter the device they are using.

Which Type of SEO Do I Need?

The SEO services that your website would benefit from depending on your business model, industry, and individual goals. However, some types of SEO that work well across the board include both technical and content SEO. These forms of SEO focus on the overall user experience and have a strong impact on rankings.

That being said, local SEO is a commonly used SEO service for businesses that operate within a specific area (e.g. a Physiotherapy clinic in Sheffield, or a Veterinary practice in Cheshire). Meanwhile, online stores would greatly benefit from eCommerce SEO and mobile SEO.
