Another month done, another digital marketing news round-up for you!
In this blog, we will go through all of the key updates currently impacting the industry, along with some new, helpful digital marketing tools we have discovered here at Wildcat.
Read on to find some key dates coming up in the marketing calendar, along with what we’ve been up to recently.
Volatility
Similar to last month, high fluctuations in SERP volatility have been noticed week on week. Going from low levels of 4.0 to a massive 8.8 just overnight.

What is causing these fluctuations?
Experts suggest that this is still a result of the Google Core Algorithm update from last month, and it doesn’t look like it will calm down any time soon.
But what does this mean?
This means all SERP rankings are in disarray and will constantly be changing, causing websites to experience a drop in visibility and KPIs. SEO experts should remember the following when there is high volatility:
- Don’t be reactive – do your research into what and where these changes have occurred
- Be consistent – Consistently monitor your keywords and their performance to see what has been impacted.
- Review all three pillars – Aside from content checks, monitor your backlinks and technical aspects as well.
Google AI Mode
On the 29th of July, we saw another huge step in AI use in the marketing world with the rollout of AI mode in Google. AI mode’s debut was seen in the US in mid-June 2025, and then in India a few weeks later, making the UK the third country to gain access.
AI mode features a new tab that provides a more conversational approach to searching, perfect for when you want to gain a further depth of information from the simple search query.
What does this mean for SEO?
AI mode is changing the way information is discovered; using the new mode makes it more difficult to get your content discovered, as searchers won’t be using SERPs to find information.
A lack of organic search results is changing the way SEOs need to think. We witnessed something similar with the rollout of AI overviews, which lowered CTRs significantly.
Instead of focusing on keywords and rankings, it is suggested that SEOs should shift efforts to ensuring their content can be easily cited and extracted by AI. This is because AI mode is looking for information that fits a specific response, therefore rapidly increasing the importance of an easily extractable structure to your content.
This highlights the importance of staying on top of trends and updates, as the most optimal way to write is constantly evolving.
SEO Acronyms Getting out of Hand
The world of SEO seems to have a language of its own: from SERPs to CTR, acronyms are everywhere.
The SEO space has witnessed the push of new acronyms such as GEO, AIO, AEO, etc., and some in the industry have said that SEO as we know it is dead. The hype around these AI Acronyms has been loud in 2025, loud enough for Google’s John Mueller to do some myth-busting:
Barry Schwartz goes into more detail on this in his recent SERoundtable piece.
Remember to stay informed of changes in the SEO industry at all times, and don’t be naïve to exaggerations and trends popping up that may not be as valid as they seem.

ChatGPT is Still Growing
More advancements have been made by OpenAI, as Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts can now be linked to ChatGPT-5 for ChatGPT Plus members.
“Smarter, faster, and more useful”, ChatGPT-5 has been said to be up to PhD-level in its abilities, specifically in areas like coding.
Connectors have been added to the above apps, allowing ChatGPT to gain access to the data. These connectors do have to be set up manually and are not automatic; instructions for this can be found on the Search Engine Journal.
OpenAI has claimed ChatGPT-5’s answers show logic and inferences – something that has been seen as a disadvantage of the software, as this previously wasn’t apparent.
